Michal Piechocki is the Chairman of the Board and CEO of the Business Reporting – Advisory Group, a RegTech and SupTech advisory services and solutions provider, serving regulators across the world since 2005. For over 12 years of his professional career he has been engaged in the professional community actively contributing to building trust in financial data ecosystems. This includes chairing the Frankfurt Group Technical Workshop on Optimization of Data Standards hosted by the European Central Bank and serving a Board Member of the Eurofiling Foundation, a non-profit organization facilitating dialogue between financial regulators, market participants and vendors and fostering adoption of open standards, identifiers and technologies for financial supervision purposes. Michal serves also as a Member of the Banking and Banking Financial Services Technical Committee at the Polish Normalization Committee, contributing to development of the ISO standards for financial services and application of open standards and technologies under Fintech Technical Advisory Group. He serves as a Member of the Board of Directors of XBRL International, an international non-profit organisation, overseeing development and worldwide adoption of the open, electronic, business reporting standard called XBRL and is a Member of the IFRS Taxonomy Consultative Group (IASB London), where he contributes to the strategy of the open IFRS XBRL Taxonomy development and international implementation.
As a CEO of the Business Reporting – Advisory Group Michal has worked for regulatory and supervisory authorities including central banks in England, Spain, Germany, Poland, Iraq, Israel, Indonesia and Austria and securities and insurance supervisory commissions and authorities in Bermuda, Poland, Malaysia and Chile applying open data standards and technologies in order to establish the trusted open data ecosystems. Michal worked for the open government Standard Business Reporting Projects in Australia and the Netherlands. He has been advising the European Commission DG FISMA, the Single Resolution Board, the European Securities and Markets Authority, the European Banking Authority and the European Insurance and Occupational Pensions Authority as well as the European Central Bank on the adoption of XBRL, SDMX, ISO20022 and the open Data Point Model for Basel Acord, IFRS, IORP and Solvency II. On behalf of his firm and in cooperation with international partners he has led the project for the European Commission, combining open Distributed Ledger Technology and open source code with international open electronic business reporting InlineXBRL standard in order to restore trust in capital markets’ transparency.
Michal graduated from the Poznan University of Economics, Poland, where he received Master’s degree in Economics. He is the author of a number of publications among others a joint publication for IFAC and ISACA and a book “XBRL for Interactive Data: Engineering the Information Value Chain” . He is a speaker at a variety of financial, technological, supervisory and statistical conferences.
