Arleen R. Thomas is Senior Vice President, Member Competency and Development at the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA). Ms. Thomas is responsible for leading teams that support the AICPA's members in public accounting, tax and industry. She is also responsible for the areas of the Institute that provide resources, information and guidance to all membership segments, including publications, CPE and professional conferences.
Ms. Thomas has served in various positions at the AICPA, including Vice President of Professional Standards and Services and Vice President of Self-Regulation and the SEC Practice Section. She joined the AICPA as Director of Accounting Standards, serving as the technical advisor to the U.S. representatives on the International Accounting Standards Committee. Ms. Thomas also represents the AICPA on the Financial Accounting Standards Advisory Council.
Prior to the AICPA, Ms. Thomas was a senior manager at KPMG LLP in the department of professional practice. She was also a statistical audit specialist and national instructor for the firm's audit and accounting programs.
Ms. Thomas holds a bachelor's degree in accounting from Metropolitan State College in Denver, Colorado.
